I didn't set out to start a mould business. I set out to understand what serious makers actually needed — and realised nobody was giving it to them.

THE STORY BEHIND CASTAWAY

I've spent most of my working life making things with my hands. Bespoke furniture, joinery, handcrafted pieces built to last — work that required patience, precision, and a genuine respect for material. That background shaped everything about how I approach a problem.

Working alongside other makers over the years — carpenters, ceramicists, jewellers, artists — I kept hearing the same frustrations. Great ideas, real skill, genuine ambition to build something — but the tools weren't there. Not the right tools. Not tools designed for people who were serious about what they were making.

When I started exploring Jesmonite casting and silicone mould making, I hit the same wall myself. The moulds available were either cheap imports that failed after a handful of uses, or professional options shipped from overseas at significant cost and delay. Nothing made specifically for the UK maker market. Nothing designed for someone building a real business.

So I built it myself.

Quality Without Apology
Every Castaway mould uses platinum-cure silicone sourced from verified EU and UK manufacturers. We use rigid 3D-printed support frames as standard. We obsess over the details that most suppliers don't even think about. There are cheaper ways to do this. We chose not to take them.

Transparency You Can Trust
We know where every material in every mould comes from. We can tell you who made our silicone, what's in it, and why we chose it. That kind of traceability isn't common in this market. It should be. We're making it the standard, starting with ourselves.
